Do you want to know Bodem Bodegas and its sustainable philosophy? Enjoy the experience and share it with family or friends.
Bodem Bodegas is located in the Sierra de Algairén, in the region of Cariñena; the forgotten cradle and birthplace of the Garnacha grape.
A privileged environment in which the wines of the last winery to be part of the Cariñena PDO are produced.
Bodem Bodegas was born in 2017 and is owned by the Geirnaerdt-van Ekeris family. The couple moved to Spain from Holland, «attracted by their passion for wine».
Several decades ago, Eugenie and Louis firmly believed in the enormous potential of the Cariñena region, taking the step to build their own winery.
Bodem is a firm commitment to Spanish wine, to native varieties and, in short, to a dream.
Bodem Bodegas, the birthplace of the Garnacha grape.
The name Bodem means soil in Dutch, and the name of the wines it produces, Las Margas, refers to the type of soil where they are grown, composed of limestone and clays.
Even the design of the bottle label is intended to represent the importance of terroir.
The winery owns 15 hectares of vineyards and controls about 108 hectares of family vineyards of local winegrowers.
The Bodem team controls production, monitoring aspects such as chemical treatments and, most importantly, the harvest, which is carried out in a personalized way in each plot, seeking maximum quality.
The same customization continues in the winery when making Las Margas wine, where part of the must is left to ferment in whole clusters and another part is de-stemmed, and also combines maturation in stainless steel tanks, ovoids and French oak barrels.
An exclusive process in search of the perfect final blend in the bottling and also of a work philosophy based on the utmost respect for the environment.
The production activities carried out in the wineries have an impact on the environment.
For this reason, Bodem Bodegas is committed to a Zero Impact project that consists of reducing actions that have a negative impact on the biodiversity of the environment in which winery work is carried out.
The winery, in the village of Almonacid de la Sierra, is a sustainable building, with solar panels that produce 90% of the energy consumed and its own water supply, purification and purification system.
Not only in the winery, but also in all the work, the aim is to reduce pollutant emissions and waste and to make the best use of resources.
Vegan certification and wine awards.
Bodem Bodegas wines are also certified as vegan products, which do not contain or have not used any animal products in their production.
With six years of experience, competitions and critics are already recognizing this unique project, which this year has taken a new step with the release of Las Margas Vidadillo, the only rosé in Spain made from 100% Vidadillo grapes.
Eugenie van Ekeris points out that Bodem Bodegas is not looking to increase production, but to continue in its quest for sustainability: «It is an exciting journey in which we want to build on our experience and improve year after year».
